Pretty awesome little supernatural action thriller. Very dark, very stylish. Really dug the ending. Didn't know rice could kill vampires. Good to know, I better stock up.

I had been meaning to see this one for a couple years ever since I saw the Blu-ray available at Target. It's a Hong Kong action horror combining Chinese ghost mythology with martials arts. It stars a lot of the original cast from the 1985 _Mr. Vampire_. I remember seeing a lot of those old-school hopping Chinese vampire movies in my childhood; although more comedic back then. But this new one has a more serious approach and is a modern take on that subject with a great art direction and cinematography using various natural elements like water, earth, fire, etc. for special effects. And it showcases popular types of ghosts from Chinese folklore. The characters are distinguishing and well-designed, each with their own backstory. I hope we see a sequel someday because according to Chinese mythology, seven days after death, the spirit/soul returns to its body briefly to bid farewell to family and loved ones. If that's any indication, they could likely tie that into the next Rigor Mortis film.
