Really good cops' movie, not that predictable at all, long, but totally enjoyable.
A little too complicated for it’s own good, and basically a similar vibe to The Departed but no where near as good. Seemed a little stop-and-go with short scenes and weird flow, but it was still enjoyable.
Like the troposphere: lots of atmosphere and not much else, but who cares? Reptile is more a character study tattooed onto noir than a true thriller, and is all the better for it. Benicio Del Toro continues to improve with each performance and the story of a troubled detective trying to establish himself in a new town is interesting enough to keep us hooked.
A thrillride! Never seen private life and crime Investigation of the (Cop) Protagonist mixed up in that way. Fresh storytelling! Brilliant score, really tensed it up. Kind of constructed Story, thats all for negative
It manages to create a certain increasingly oppressive atmosphere around the character of Tommy, helped above all by a claustrophobic score by Yair Elazar Glotman, but it feels like a kind of minor David Fincher, without much suspense or much strength. Nor does help to improve the film a predictable script from the first appearance of the characters and some ridiculous performances such as that of a somewhat misplaced Justin Timberlake. There is a nineties police look but it lacks development and forcefulness.
Decent enough movie but, as has been mentioned a number of times, way too long, quite a lot of padding for the sake of increasing the run time but adding no value. Odd choice of title too, I was half expecting some 'creature feature' like Venom but it's just a name a I guess, bit like calling the Fast series Coffee instead, like huh? Good cast though and great cinematography, very atmospheric but 90 minutes with a tighter script and better editing would have made it less of a slog in parts.
i don't mind long movies - i just think this one didn't need to be as long as it was. but the acting is good and i like benicio del toro pretty much no matter what his role is.
This movie was really boring to me. I would say it couldn't keep me engaged but it never had me engaged to begin with. It was just really bland and I didn't really care about anything that happened.
God this movie was so damn boring. I kept waiting and waiting for something to happen then when it finally does you're just glad that it's over so you can watch something else. Don't waste your time.
What's with the low average?!? This film is top of the heap. Sound design deserves an Oscar. Directing? I checked the credits expecting to see one of the top directors of our time, but Grant Singer has only made music videos until this feature!!! I really hope he can keep making films this great; if he does, he'll be an A+-list director in my book. I'm guessing that seeing this today is akin to the experience people in the 1950s had with Hitchcock. I don't have words to express the perfection I see and hear. It's not an action film, but from the first scene I was made aware of the genre and expectations, so I found the pace to be perfect. Editing was stellar.
A hidden gem. I came for Benicio del Toro because, well, we don’t get enough of him, and stayed for the very well acted scenes. Was pleasantly surprised to see AS, I probably haven’t seen her since my adolescence. Yea it’s a bit long, but there are enough details to make the journey interesting. Not something I could watch again, but 100% happy to have seen it!
The good: incredibly well acted and directed. This oozed modern neo-noir. The music and vibe were great although at times overzealous. The bad: convoluted and complicated plot. Far too long. Instead of a slow burn, it's just a slog. A lot of irrelevant pseudo-plotting to fill air. This could have been a lot better with a better editor and writer. Give a little more narrative meat worthy of the scene chewing.
:heart::heart::heart::heart::heart: - Film is far to long Here's how my rating system works: 10:heart:- Masterpiece :100: 9:heart:- Excellent 8:heart: - Amazing :ok_hand: 7:heart:- Great :sun_with_face: 6:heart: - Good :thumbsup: 5:heart: - Average :head_bandage: 4:heart: - Bad but watchable :octagonal_sign: 3:heart: - Bad :sob: 2:heart:- Awful :face_vomiting: 1:heart: - Bull Shit :zzz:
Benicio Del Toro is why I choose to watch. Movie was good. Too long though. Should you watch? Yes.
I watched it for Benicio del Toro because everything I've seen him in has been really good and this movie didn't disappoint.
very excited about this one. i have a feeling it'll be spectacular.
a bit overstylized for my taste.
Really good movie. Keeps you engaged right up untill the last scene. 10/10
Good movie. Over long, dragged for a while, but good ending. Well worth a watch :thumbsup_tone1:
A good cast are adrift in a promising movie that seemingly shed its skin to become something quite empty-headed.
Nice, good cast but slow and predictable.
Really well done. Been a while since Netflix dropped such a high quality movie. Easy 9/10.

Reptile is hardly original but that doesn't stop it from being a decent film. Cut from the same dark cloth as so, so many, seedy underbelly US crime drama's, the plot behind this film is hardly original. That said, its saved from mediocrity, by its adherence to the basic premise its built upon and plausible performances, from its cast. Indeed the subdued, very conventional approach taken to character development reminded more of Swedish or UK series, where the characters are ordinary people, with mostly, ordinary lives. In summary, whilst Reptile isn't doing nothing new, its refreshingly down to earth approach to character development, does offer a little more to the viewer, than the conventional, "by the numbers", US crime drama.

**cop/crime thriller, well executed. Nothing to get excited about, but above the rest.** The leading couple, Del Toro and Silverstone, are well cast - not the unlikely "what are these supermodels doing in this situations", but a realistic looking middle-aged couple. Him weary but still strong, her chubby, cheerful and sensible. His country club dancing isn't winning prizes; he's called Oklahoma "because he doesn't cut a rag". Their friends are a fun bunch, living a bit above their pay grade, ribbing, caring, and close. After we get the scenery set, the crime starts: A real estate agent is bloodily murdered. Investigating the murder turns up more than one likely suspect. And nothing is quite as clear as one might wish. The plot is complex enough but not convoluted; The characters are authentic and their portrayal is skillfully done. Direction, cinematography and editing maintain suspense. They don't irritate you with fashionable gimmicks, but instead allow us to concentrate on the story and the characters. (Avoiding spoilers) The twists and turns aren't gimmicky either. Everything remains within the bounds of the probable and possible; and so the story maintains realism and therefore appears more intense. I can recommend this as a solid, entertaining, suspenseful and above all realistic crime thriller. One more thing: I've read the name "Justin Timberlake" a lot before. I thought he was a singer but never heard what he did. He is in this as an actor; and I have to say he plays his role well, like a professional. Not at all like some other singers who try this and end up embarrassing themselves. A positive surprise.
