Decent movie, way better than that crap they are calling a remake. May Patrick Swayze rest in peace.

Not perfect but way better than the unnecessary remake.

We'#39;re all gonna die...die standing up!!!... I just watched this tonight for 50th time since I was a kid and am just as wound up as I was when I was 10 I love it... Wooooolveriiiiiiiiines!!!!

Gunship has used clips from this movie, so I put it on my list many years ago. What better day to watch it than on a July 4th. Elements of an early/mid-80s movie, but strongly banging on the drums of the gold old USA. Fine acting. Jumps pretty immediately into the action. First 45 minutes goes pretty fast with some nice lulls and character building. Ending is a little rushed. Searched online, but doesn't look like there's a good source for all the
Spanish and Russian
that's spoken; at least via Amazon Prime the subtitles just state the language. Context provides a little, but not much. Probably also the first time I've seen this young of a Patrick Swayze; looks very much like Kurt Russell ...

This movie is to my mind a bit overrated, given the pretty unbelievable base story. I can though understand why it is considered a classic, given the star cast. Don’t think too much about it and enjoy the action.

Ya know, I grew up with this movie and it always held it's status as a classic. Watching it with fresh eyes, it's a bit silly and drags in places, but it's still a great concept with an awesome cast.

Classic 80's action for better and worse. Much better film than the remake with a rock solid cast, but if you don't like 80's action then there is not much here to recommend. Rating: 3/5 - 75% - Worth Watching

The opening is brutal and I can't imagine how much harder to watch was 40 years ago when people were less desensitized to graphic violence. The right wing politics of this movie makes Rambo look like hippie stuff. It starts to drag by the second hour but it's still fun.

The invasion of a town in the United States by communist troops.

I know a lot of people think Red Dawn is a classic and have a fondness for it because they first watched it when they were young, but having just seen it for the first time as a 46 year old - somehow missing it back in the 80s - I have to say that this movie was tough to make it through. With the exception of maybe Powers Boothe, the acting here was very bad, this, from people who would become decent actors eventually, but they certainly weren't here. The plot and the action is preposterous. We're supposed to believe that a small group of high schoolers are taking out trained soldiers from Russia and Cuba, throwing grenades, launching RPGs and blowing up tanks and shit? Some of the photography and cinematography was good, and the film had an interesting premise - Lord of the Flies meets The Dirty Dozen meets Apocalypse Now - but it's too ridiculous to suspend disbelief. If the kids had been trained by an experienced vet first, it still wouldn't have made much sense, but it would have been a little more believable, instead of high schoolers (with just graduated Patrick Swayze) just mowing down troops with assault rifles. Needless to say, it doesn't end well, but at least they put up a hell of a fight on their way out.

Oh you've gotta see _Red Dawn_.... It's not particularly good, but you've got to see it. _Final rating:★★½ - Not quite for me, but I definitely get the appeal._
