In 1935 rural Texas, recently widowed Edna Spaulding struggles to survive with two small children, a farm to run, and very little money in the bank - not to mention a deadly tornado and the unwelcome presence of the Ku Klux Klan. Edna is aided by her beautician sister, Margaret; a blind boarder, Mr. Will; and a would-be thief, Moze, who decides to teach Edna how to plant and harvest cotton.

I was really impressed with this film! The acting was really good, not a shock, considering it's from a solid cast. Before browsing on Prime, I had never heard of this film before, so it was a pleasant surprise

What a star-studded cast! I love the way Robert Benton presents the social issues and crises of the time [spoiler](like gun violence, racism, war veterans, the Great Depression, corporal punishment for children etc.)[/spoiler] with the realism and gravity they deserve, without the wokeness or soapboxing we so often see nowadays. The only sidestory that felt uninteresting to me was [spoiler]the adultery affair of Ed Harris' character, but I guess it was there to tie everything with the film's end message of forgiveness[/spoiler].
