This is one of my favourite movies, though it is under-apreciated outside of New Zealand. It tells the story of a Maori community in New Zealand at a time when they were searching for their identity. Many of them were lost between their traditions and the modern world. The story is told through the family of Jake Heke, brilliantly played by Temuera Morison, a lost soul who fights the world he cannot cope with with his fists. The outstanding performances by Rena Owen and Mamaengaroa Kerr help to Mae this movie a masterpiece. Watch it and you will for sure appreciate this extraordinary drama.

This is a film that should be seen by everyone. A powerful movie that will stir almost every emotion you can think of, and sometimes all at once. Completely believable and compelling film that will hold you till the very end, and a long time after.
