_Hotel Monterey_, _News from Home_, and _D’Est_ are three films characterized by the use of static shots or tracking shots, without any script, plot, or narrative, in which the images, with a slow rhythm, progress without any apparent purpose. These films, identical in style and composition, differ primarily in location and sound treatment: _Hotel Monterey_ is completely devoid of sound, both diegetic and non-diegetic; _News from Home_ incorporates ambient sound and Akerman’s voice reading letters she received from her mother while in New York; and _D’Est_ features only ambient sounds. Additionally, the limited color palette and lighting contribute to a sense of repetition in the shots.
