Nashville

Might not be a movie for folks who don't remember the 70s. It might be useful to know a little about Robert Altman as well. Lots of improv and commentary on the Nashville music scene at the time and everything from "Easy Rider," the Kennedys, celebrity culture, to politicians who wrap themselves in the flag. It really felt like revisiting that era in a time machine. Everything about this movie is 'slice of life' and satire. The songs were all written by the actors who performed them, felt like genuine article, and were mostly hilarious. The cast is great -- very cool to see Henry Gibson and Lilly Tomlin from "Laugh In" in serious roles along with a very young Shelly Duvall, Scott Glenn, and Jeff Goldblum. Bonus: This was the first film to be played in Dolby stereo in New York and L.A. and inspired George Lucas to use Dolby in his Star Wars movies because of its great 3D sound.

It's very long and boring most of the time. The music was decent.
