This isn't horror at all. It's very boring though.

Beautiful, dark, surreal. This is more a psychological thriller than your typical horror. Some viewers may be disappointed based on expectations of the horror genre but I absolutely loved this film. The cinematography was gorgeous and I really enjoyed Anna Diop's performance. Looking forward to seeing more from director Nikyatu Jusu.

"The spirits equipped us with resilience.
But the spirits' tools aren't always kind.

Some want blood, an eye for an eye.
Some just want you rebirthed so you can persist.
One can never really define good and evil.

My question for you, Aisha:
How do you use your rage?
Is it your superpower,
or is it your kryptonite?"

This one will stay with me for a while.

A dark drama about an immigrant trying to make it in America as a nanny all the while trying to reunite with her son. A heartwarming premise for sure but the inclusion of half-baked horror elements diminishes it's well-done drama elements and you're ultimately left with something that fails in both categories. Great performance from Anna Diop she portrays a very likable and relatable main character. The design of the entity looked great for the 10 seconds of screen time it got!

The film had potential, and the premise was good, but instead of a properly structure linear story, there was just a whole lot of rising action, a decent climax and an incredibly abrupt, incomplete resolution.

Aesthetically beautiful, the colors and angles chosen by the director are even poetic. The film has a slower pace, focuses a lot on the introspective to develop the character, and the performances here are great, very expressive, and the setting has an uncomfortable feeling of heaviness, as well as a strong melancholy that increases as the story progresses.

Uff. This one hurt. An astonishing, uneasily and intriguing viewing experience with a very gloomy atmosphere and the first feature film by Nikyatu Jusu. Anna Diop is just absolutely amazing and immediate cast a spell over me. Paired with the amazing visuals and the soundtrack, this movie doesn't really let you know what's going on and as we see Aisha going slowly down I could figuratively feel her grabbing my legs too. You never really know what is this weird feeling you have, but so doesn't she. This slow burn, atmospheric and psychological thriller-horror left a mark on me. And even though it was not really scary in the usual way, it is gut-wrenching in a way only few movies had done before. That's what nightmares feel in real life.

What a duh of a movie!

It attempted to introduce and use a few concepts but couldn't use either of them fully. All of them fell flat by the end, especially the supernatural ones.

Ain't suspense, horror, it is a hallmark sunday drama, the only horror that I felt is not receive in full my pay check, that is the horror about this movie. Skip it.

[Prime Video] In its proposal for a social message about the separation of the family, micro-racism and the traumas of emigration, the director is committed to introducing supernatural elements that in a certain way end up harming a drama that is sustained without the need for elements additional ones that bring it closer to that social black horror that has been developing in recent years. The film ends up being frustrating because it doesn't develop its main elements and is distracted, especially in the third act, with that tone of nightmarish reverie that accompanies the protagonist.

Not really a horror movie (at least, not in the traditional sense), despite its Blumhouse origins. It's an interesting tale but it doesn't have the impact it could have had.
