There's a lot you could quibble about here: the story is very predictable for this genre of Chinese coming-of-age stories, Arthur Chen's acting is a little uneven, the ending is a bit abrupt, it's pretty cheesy, blah blah blah.

Unfortunately for me, I still liked it because I am a huge sucker for this type of story. It helps that He Landou basically puts the entire movie on her shoulders and carries it. Like most of us, I can't say I have a memory of high school that matches this kind of story, but the movie did fill me with a warm nostalgia for those years right before I turned 20 where it seemed like anything was possible. The days where it simultaneously seemed like I was in the best days of my life and yet I knew the best was still to come.

You probably shouldn't blind-buy an imported copy like I did, but it's worth a watch on Viki!
