The Mothers of Tears was one of my most awaited films ever. I just needed the conclusion to The Three Mothers so bad. In the end, I guess I did get a conclusion, but not at all the one I wanted. For one, It’s nowhere near as stylish as the first two… and I’m blaming technology for that one. Digital cameras and digital effects will never look as good as the “real” thing. Another thing that irks me, is that most of the flair Argento showed us with both Suspiria and Inferno, is gone… What’s left is something that looks like it was made for TV. I don't look bad, just very “digital”.

The story is not all that bad, but it’s a lot less coherent than both Suspiria and Inferno… and that says a lot. More silly than scary for the most part. Some sequences are decent, with both tension building and a proper release, but for the most part you get some half-assed attempt at shocking you. The thing that ends up really fucking things up, though, is the ending. You’ll know what I mean when you see it.

The acting in The Mother of Tears is not very good. Worst of all is Asia Argento. I have no idea how someone that has been pretty decent in most of the things I have seen her in, manages to screw things up as royally as Asia Argento does here. The darn monkey does a better job than her in this.

Simonetti manages a pretty decent score, but it’s not anywhere near his best effort. Often very subdued. I know it’s unfair to compare this to Suspiria and Inferno, but it comes nowhere close to either.

The Mother of Tears was one of the greatest cinematic disappointments I have ever had, and I can’t say I like it this time around either. Maybe if it wasn’t tied to two of the better horror films that have ever come out of Italy… I don’t know. All I know is that it’s going to be quite a while until I see this part of The Three Mothers trilogy again.
