**THE GOOD:**

Rolf Lassgård is a phenomenal pick to play a transgender man. He fully embraces the part, allowing his character the emotional dimension they deserve.

Despite occasionally falling for typical tongue in cheek humour, the film deals with the personal struggles of trans people and the prejudices of family and society carefully but firmly.

Hedda Stiernstedt puts in a largely believable and relatable performance, allowing us to feel the highs and lows together with her character.

It's great to see a film that feels representative of trans people without making fun of them or describing them narrow-mindedly. At the same time, it never takes over the film, allowing other aspects of the story to take on their own.

----

**THE BAD:**

Some story and comedy elements seem copy-pasted from similar Swedish drama comedies, making the story predictable and some of the jokes worn out.

----

**THE UGLY:**

Shameless promoting of When Harry Met Sally. I gotta watch it now.

----

**THE VERDICT:**

_A surprisingly heartfelt depiction of transgender people with altogether convincing performances, My Dad Marianne is thoroughly enjoyable from beginning to end._
