Down right bad. Its the classic tamil mass hero movie story telling. There is no one story and the movie just goes on for the first 50 mins. Very bad writing. Scenes are just planted for Vijay to look like a better person. Airport scene is dumb. Fight scene in coffee shop is terrible. Too many event driven plot is bad writing.

Mersal is an awesome movie with great entertainment value. Vijay has given his best performance yet and he deserves praise for his triple role.The movie doesn't overdo the "mass" image that Vijay has, but it does provide us with some moments that will give you goosebumps.
