What an incredibly dull movie.
The beautiful scenery regrettably went to waste with the unbearably boring leading male and female characters, Jan and Katherine, Jan with very limited character depth, and Katherine who delivered us 2 hours of the same dead-eyed staring that we had to endure.

The other characters are comparably more interesting, such as the mercenaries, or the rebels, whom none of them got the screen time they deserved - nearly none of them had their name mentioned for us to remember by even, and when they died, they hardly meant anything to the advancement of the film.

The changing alliances in the film were never correctly paced, and are always brought up in a cut scene with a little secret conversation in a church for some reason. it was hard to understand who is on whose side from time to time, and to be honest, by the end you simply don't care.

Also some of the dialogues had to be changed in post, especially about Katherines uncle being king of France. For that we are given hilariously edited, unsynchronized lips when Michael Cain and Jan talked about it. Truly unfortunate but funny none the less.

The fighting was legitimately entertaining and well designed however, only if the character fought with more purpose, and died meaningful deaths (and at the right timing, too much to ask i know) the fighting could have tied the whole story together, but to no surprise, that was too tall a calling for this ambitious movie that fell short on direction, dialogues, character design, editing among many other things. They really should have just made something smaller and more focused with all that budget.

P.S. a film with both a verbal intro and a verbal outro is almost 100% guaranteed bad, this movie proved that once again.
