After David throws out the allure of Easy Rider to inspire his wife to quit her job after he's fired I paused and tried to remember how that movie ends. I can understand the allure of quitting society, but Easy Rider does not end on a positive note. The difference between their fantasy and reality is where the movie shines. I found the juxtaposition amusing. Looking at Lost in America, I wasn't able to keep myself fully engaged. I kept drifting to feelings I've had about that allure of quitting my job, cashing out, and living a simpler life. I never do it because my second level thinking kicks in and I can see all the things that would go wrong. This is something that the couple in Lost in America could have used, but then we wouldn't have this film.

I wasn’t thoroughly engaged, but it was an alright watch. Albert Brooks will forever give me Finding Nemo vibes since my kids have that film on a steady rotation.

As hinted to several times in the dialogue, this is a suburban retelling of Easy Rider. Where that movie might be an idealization of travelling across America being free, this is much closer to what would actually happen. The juxaposition between the dream and the reality is the driving tension and comedic relief. The script is great, and the acting is so good it'#39;s hard to tell if all the lines are actually scripted. Travel movies usually offer a lot of variety and changing location, so it stays quite fresh throughout. Definitely a great movie that is a little underrated.

Albert Brooks always takes on a role that emphasizes his great comedic range. Julie Hagerty, not so much. '#34;Have you seen Easy Rider?!'#34;

Good. Laughed a bit. Loved some of the performances.
