Somehow this macho behind-enemy-lines paramilitary hero worship is also a done operator workplace situational comedy at the same time. I don't think there's anyone I would recommend this to. They try to do some sort of geek to hunk transformation with the main protag (why?) because on the mission he's responsible for talking to the drone operators and has a little screen to look at the drone feed so I guess that means he's nerd-coded. Then by the end he's shirtless and glistening against a fiery backdrop and has survived numerous explosions and killed multiple assailants. I appreciated the comedy of the drone operator segments but they didn't really contrast well with the A plot. I would, however, watch more of Russel Crowe shopping, that was delightful.

I think if this had been played for comedy it would have been thoroughly more enjoyable. If everyone was dying because the drone operator was busy watching the basketball game or seeing his pregnant wife or shopping that would have been hilarious. Maybe they have to go buy something at a McDonalds while they're away from the base so they can do a drone strike safely from the bathroom then drop their phone in the toilet. Comedy gold.

There is a scene during the climax of this movie where the main character is basically just trying to get better cell service while deep in an underground cave. The stakes are not fun when we're waiting for someone else to wait for technology to work, that's just frustrating as an audience.
