Perfectly acceptable live action remake tat isn't as soul-killing as Lion King nor as hopelessly banal as Dumbo. The movements of the mouths didn't put me off as I've seen far worse in the sub-genre of talking dog cgi cinema. Sincerely no clue why it's getting so much hate.

It's fine. The animation looks great. The story is exactly what you expect.

Needless? Yes. Enjoyable? Also, yes. I'm not entirely sure 'Lady and the Tramp' was a film that needed remaking but here we are. This 2019 production is solid. I like the way it is shot and brought to life. It's rewritten in a few parts, to mostly positive effect - though the original film is still, by a fair distance, best. I wouldn't say the cast are anything exceptional but they do what's needed. Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux give good performances as Lady and Tramp respectively, while Adrian Martinez's Elliot is probably the character I'll remember most - away from the two dogs, of course. Janelle Monáe, Sam Elliott and Yvette Nicole Brown are decent too; even if it is difficult to picture the latter as a baddie. They get rid of the "The Siamese Cat Song", though the replacement tune is actually fairly good. The other songs, like "La La Lu", remain but are obviously tinkered. The run time is longer, which I don't think was nessacary but they fill it well enough. Solid attempt.

This film is so adorable. The dogs in it are really cute, and I love the fact that they trained rescue dogs to play the roles. It's a bit jarring seeing no reference to racism in the 1910s period setting though. They could have done something very interesting there, given that Lady's owners are a mixed race couple. And speaking of her owners, once they have the baby they kind of overplay their negligence towards her. I mean they don't even take the poor dog for a walk! I know they make a point in the screenplay of them apologising to Lady for their poor post-baby treatment, but it still doesn't sit right for me. Especially when the story ends with them adopting Tramp. This couple are clearly not fit to own a dog. Overall though, it's a fun addition to the Disney Plus exclusive content and definitely one you should watch if you're a dog lover like me.
