The story is liberally inspired by the story of the sisters killers Cathrine and Lea Papin. Great acting and grotesque story about clasism and social inequality. The real story of the homicides is absolutly more macabre, i reccomend you discover it.

Like Ostlund’s Triangle of Sadness, portrays the working class as having no principles in theory or action and even worse, revelling in nihilism. 'full-frontal attack on the French bourgeoisie'? Laughable. No such thing occurs.

The movie is excessively slow, with a dynamic between the characters that could have been better explored. Despite having an interesting premise, the narrative drags in circles and only picks up pace in the final 35 minutes. However, the changes in the actions of the main characters are abrupt and unnatural, resulting in caricatured scenes. Even the moments that should be impactful end up being boring.

While this film was made 26 years before this review its message seems as important today as it was then. At the core of the story is a woman who seems to have a marginal intellect. She doesn'#39;t read books and is instantly captivated when she discovers the idiot box (television). Not surprisingly, the performance at her work begins to slip. Things change again when she meets someone who has strong opinions about her employers and her life. The woman slowly becomes more aligned toward the stranger and then things really change. I thought the movie was an excellent representation of the dangers of not thinking and assuming that someone that has a better lot in life than you is taking advantage of you. This movie is the French version of "Thelma & Louise". Okay, it's different from that classic, but oh so much fun to watch. Reverse-spoiler alert: the ending is very different.
