Joker: Folie à Deux

Todd Phillips will be profoundly misunderstood with this movie because people expected something different from what Joker truly is. This is a violent, sad, and melancholic film that exposes how society is sick—not just in Gotham, but in our real world as well. It feels like the movie was made to deconstruct what the Joker became after the first film, showing that he’s not a victim of the system but is actually part of it, becoming what he initially criticized. It’s a dense movie, and the songs help narrate the story, chosen to intensify their presence in a way that makes everyone—including Arthur—tired of them. Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga are absolutely incredible as Joker and Harley Quinn, giving everything they have to their roles. Unfortunately, I can foresee the audience not fully grasping Todd’s intentions and unfairly criticizing what I believe is one of the best sequels made with true purpose in recent years.

Three types of people who watch this movie. 1) Anti-fans who know they hated the first one "because incel wah wah" 2) "Literally me" incels who found the first one comforting 3) Normal people who watch movies for the sake of enjoying a movie This movie alienates the first two types. If you're the third type, it's an enjoyable movie despite lacking the oomph that made the first one groundbreaking.
