Ivanhoe is probably the most-watched film in Sweden on New Year’s Day. No one really knows why – but it has become a cultural tradition. Since 1986, the film has aired every New Year’s Day for 39 consecutive years. And to be fair – it’s the perfect background movie when you’re hungover and eating pizza. As a film, though? Well… Ivanhoe is a rather mediocre 80s production, bordering more on turkey than timeless. We follow the returning crusader Ivanhoe, who for some reason risks everything for a Jewish princess, only to ditch her for the photogenic Rowena in the end. Somewhere along the way, the filmmakers manage to throw in Richard the Lionheart, Robin Hood, a terrible jester, and what ends up feeling like a confused medieval soup. Still – one thing’s for sure: Next year, it’ll be pizza and Ivanhoe again. Don’t ask why. 🙄 ⭐ 4/10 Production: 3/10 Cinematography: 6/10 Authenticity: 2/10

Great movie when you were little. TV Air on New Year'#39;s day every year in Sweden. So I'#39;m pretty tired of seeing it now.
