On a scale of 1 to ridiculous, I'd rate this f**kin bonkers! Even our teenager was calling out some of the stunts as nonsense.

It's as if the Producers said, "We want a cross between Fast and Furious, Highlander, and the Matrix." Sadly, Mark doesn't disappear into the character like Keanu or Christopher did and all I can see is "Marky Mark" performing the same role he always does. He becomes a distraction to the overall story and that's too bad because this had the potential to be what everyone wants these days, a "Franchise".

Oh well, I guess everything really is a remix.

@itswilder _a cross between Fast and Furious, Highlander, and the Matrix_<br /> <br /> Those were the exact movies I had in mind while watching this. Doesn't mix that well.

@itswilder it fells like they adapted the role for Mark. Instead of acting like a guy who has knowledge and wisdom of hundreds of years, he just acts like Mark. This can't only be explained by acting skills but is part of bad writing. The story is just bullshit and some of the decissions just don't make any sense at all.

The movie is not bad, for me it would have been great if it was someone else instead of Mark, the part is not suited for him ..beside i don't find him convincing in sci-fi.(transformers deja Vu)

@balazs955
The Dethroner gun puts their soul into a computer chip. So, they’re not dead. Just digital. And, probably, still sentient.
There are three phases of this movie. Beginning is great. You say one fine action movie with gripping story and high class CGI. Towards the middle you sense that something is becoming cheesy. And the closure scenes are full of nonsense, same old cliches. But I must give Mark Wahlberg credits for the acting.

The premise of the film was GOOD, the thought behind was GOOD but the execution was BAD.

The choice of casting Mark Wahlberg instead of Dylan O'Brien in the role of Treadway is not even the worst thing that this film has done! This film could have been much better with a different actor in the role of main character because amongst a cast of young adults Wahlberg sticks out like a sore thumb, and seeing the interactions between him and Sophie Cookson's character gave me the creeps.
The worst thing are the characters: half assed, without depth, with enough backstory to have sense and with no trace of a personality of their own.

The only bright spot in this shit show? Dylan O'Brien and Sophie Cookson.
Why the film wasn't just about those two frolicking around?

What the fuck is this shit?
If I switched my brain off (as some have suggested) long enough to enjoy this I'd stay that way. Or worse, never regain consciousness ever again.

Quite some achievement to take Assassin's Creed, add different other popular elements and the end result is worse and more boring than all these ripped-off, already bad and boring, movies.

I really enjoyed playing this video game... The graphics on the PS5 really make it seem so lif..... Oh wait. It was a movie? Oh right.

They say all Mexican food is the same, just folded differently.

Well consider this the film equivalent...

150ml The Matrix
200g Assassin's Creed
40g Fast & Furious 4
20ml Last Samurai
10g Da Vinci Code
15ml Tom Cruise's The Mummy
250g Inception

Empty into a bowl, stirring constantly.

Knead with the effort of 0.35 Mark Wahlbergs (or however much effort you believe he put into this role)

Heat til simmering over the burning DVD case of a Mission Impossible boxset.

Season with sprinkles of Shawshank Redemption (no) , The Godfather (no) and Godfather Pt II (no) , Dark Knight (no) and Schindler's List (no), the Shooter sequel nobody was asking for (yes).

4/10

What a pile of CG garbage with a script written by AI and a performance by Wahlberg that he should be embarrassed about... But of course he won't be. He's too busy cashing Paramount's cheque.

The action scenes were pretty amazing. Very realistic fight sequences, and amazing car chases! Mark Wahlberg does very well with doing action/suspense movies.

"Inception" for dummies. At the beginning it explains the difference between "believers" and "nihilists". But, just in case, in the middle of the story it explains it again. Almost every scene has an explanation, in case the viewers are stupid. Antoine Fuqua is a good director of action scenes, but sacrifices character development in favor of fireworks. Wait, what's the difference between "believers" and "nihilists"?

Ok, how I would fix this Wanted/Mission Impossible/Matrix/Fast and Furious/John Wick mashup mess:

1 - Mark Wahlberg is old treadway.
2 - Dylan O'brien is young treadway.
3 - Jason Mantzoukas as the bad guy.
4 - Chiwetel as some type of Master of the Hub.
3 - This should have been a 10 episode one-season-only show with 1 hour episodes.
4 - It should have started with Young Treadway (and memory blocked) meeting Nora by accident in "the beginning". So she would think he is Abel. But turns out to be treadway himself.
5 - There would be more backstory, character development to make me care and get me involved.
6 - If we're talking rebirth and things like that, I want less TECH. The captured souls should have been in some glowing glass bottle and not in computer chips.
7 - Why the fuck didn't he just build another egg?? We would get into that.
8 - Were the soldiers infinites too? Are they also tired of rebirth? Maybe they could be a cult that believes no one should be reborn.

This could have been so damn good...

7 - Treadway killed the people that created the egg. Development would have to start over from the beginning.

my verdict on this is that it would've been much better as a narrative-driven video game. not a tv miniseries, not a franchise, just a well rounded video game with a decent story and fun game mechanics.

don't expect anything mind blowing and you'll enjoy this. it's a generic sci fi movie and there's not nearly enough of dylan o brien's cute face to level it up from there. some dialogue is silly, the cgi varies from excellent to passable (i wonder how sick of rendering breaking glass these vfx artists are) and there's a lot of weird plot holes and nonsensical physics going on that never get explained. if it's setting up for a sequel, okay i guess.

i think this is worth a watch for some of the cast members. jason mantzoukas mostly, i mean. mark wahlberg is so wooden in sci fi, he must just not act as well when there's a lot of cgi and he has to interact with green screens and props instead of reality? because he's been pretty decent other times. i also just don't like him though.

@birdcages In my comment I wrote I would see it as a 10 episode show. But the narrative-drive video game is an awesome idea!

Put your brain on “off” mode…

Then enjoy a mix of a bunch of movies and sci-fi concepts without expecting too much even if they try to wrap it with smart quotes and narration.

I would’ve loved this movie when I was 13. Now it made me smile and rolled my eyes a couple of times. But it entertained me for an evening.
