The Womb

A solid, if a bit ponderous Indonesian occult horror film that quite surpassed my expectations. I was pleasantly surprised by how thrilling and hilarious this film actually is, although it clearly doesn't need to be almost 2-hour long. It's suitably creepy, filled with comedic moments and just the right amount of violence. Leaning quite heavy on the drama with some occult elements in it. Almost every Indonesian horror that I've seen have quite a lot of attempts at humor. Most of the attempts are poor and ultimately making the whole film feels comical. What I like the most from this is that the comedic moments work just as well as pure horror, that I don't really mind the deliberately slow pace. I wouldn't say the core mystery is hard to solve but the journey is immensely entertaining, and the unexpected emotional moments feel wholly earned without being too cloying, thanks to equally strong performances from the cast.
