Kneejerk reaction: This wasn't nearly as good as the first _I Spit On Your Grave_ reboot. Same premise: rape/revenge but in this particular film, although the kills were a touch more gruesome, the overall feel of the entire story was just too big a stretch and the protagonist (Jemma Dallender) just wasn't nearly as enjoyable - or believable - as Sarah Butler was. The protracted rape/torture/rape/bury was difficult to watch but even that seemed "shallow"...missing the brutal reality of the earlier film. The same can be said for the part of "Kate"; it was really difficult to buy into her character because she was just shallow from the beginning. And to survive what she (supposedly) survived and to come out of it with nothing but revenge on her mind (as opposed to escaping for her life and trying to get to the embassy), it was just too much. Likewise, as was pointed out, she _"weighs as much as a leaf, soaking wet"_ but she's powerful enough to overcome 4 grown men, including one that's topping the 300-lb mark, easy. There was just.... Look, I love movies, and I really don't have an issue disengaging my brain and enjoyinig a good film, but there has to be enough believability in it or I just disconnect. Somewhere around a half-hour left in this film, in spite of the gruesome, beautiful kill scenes, I just lost interest because it was that far-fetched. [spoiler]For one thing, a man who is getting his testicles crushed in a vice is not going to lay there moaning; he would have passed completely out from the pain level long before "Ivan" supposedly bled out... And he's CERTAINLY - after being "castrated by crushing" - not going to suddenly sit up and throw a noose around the neck of his attacker and suddenly start crushing the life out of her.[/spoiler] I had really braced myself for a very brutal rape scene - and it was no walk in the park, I promise you - but, much like the predecessor, it was almost harder to watch the "cat-and-mouse torture" than the brutal rape itself. And in spite of all they did, she somehow managed to come back and wreak havoc on all of them...without so much as an additional mark on herself. The revenge kills were good - they really were - but it was just missing that certain something that the earlier film had and I just didn't find it all that great a movie. Props for at least trying something different but the overall picture, including the conclusion, just didn't come together all that well. Watch it at your own risk.
