The film calls to mind the TV series Maison Close (which would be a good companion piece of viewing). Both feature the use of 20th century music against a period setting, disconcerting the viewer. Split-screen is also used effectively in the film and often at unexpected junctures.

Though utterly depressing pretty much from start to finish, this is still a compelling film to watch as we follow a group of girls who are caught up in the most vicious of circles. They all work for "Madame Marie-France" (Noémie Lvovsky) in her slightly upmarket, but now fairly jaded, brothel. It's More
