The creators of this movie really brought the magic of Dr. Seuss to computer animation. Especially the wonderful world of Whoville which was as whimsical and colorful as anything I could have imagined. The jungle scenes were not as impressive but the strange animals that inhabited it made up for that. The book from which the movie is based has always had a nice moral about sticking to your beliefs and the filmmakers stayed with Dr. Seuss's original story. It was nice to see that the toilet humor so prevalent in children's movies today was kept to a minimum. There were some drawbacks that kept me from rating it higher. Jim Carrey's voice work for Horton was just a bit out of place. I never considered Horton to be so wacky. His voice isn't really that distinctive either. Near the end of the film the characters break into a painful rendition of REO Speedwagon's "Can't Fight This Feeling" which was misplaced and pretty embarrassing. It seems the only reason for it was to showcase Jesse McCartney's singing voice used for the Jojo character. Overall though this was a very creative venture and an appropriate retelling of a classic children's book.
