_Horror Rises from the Tomb_ is another example of a movie that has several flaws, but it almost doesn't matter because of what it gets right in terms of tone. Yes, the pacing is slow. Yes, the story is thin. I don't care. This movie is dripping with atmosphere. When October rolls around, this is exactly the type of film I want to watch.
The horror movies from the '60s, and '70s, had the perfect creep factor to them, especially those from Europe.
I'm a little sad it took me so long to learn about Paul Naschy. The man should be spoken about in the same breath as Karloff, Lugosi, Price, Cushing, and Lee. Speaking of Cushing, and Lee, _Horror Rises_ is doing its best to emulate a Hammer Dracula movie, but it's not a vampire movie at all. The evil forces are technically witches, but they behave, and dress, more like vampires. We also get zombies.
Another bonus here is Helga Line, and the other beautiful ladies. _Horror Rises_ isn't shy about nudity, not a complaint.
Finally, a major saving grace here is the music. If not for the spooky organ pounding its melody from start to finish, this would be a rather bland entry. I'm not the only one who thinks so: Rob Zombie liked it so much, he sampled it and made it into an entire song, "How to Make a Monster." If it's good enough for Mister Zombie, it's good enough for me.
