Woody Allen always loves to write about nervous, complexed and temperamental characters. Hollywood Ending is another one of those examples and this time he is the one plays it.

Val Waxman was a very well respected Hollywood director until he has lost all of his credibility because of some poor works. The chance of directing a great film after a long time appears by the hands of his ex-wife who cheated on him with the millionaire that is producing the film. Val is not dealing very well with the situation but it's his last big opportunity and he has to accept. After some kind of nervous breakdown he developed a psychosomatic blindness. Now he has to direct the picture without seeing a single thing and no one must find out!

With a story like that we just have to expect some great moments of laugh and we definitely have them. But until the one hour mark it looks like nothing special happens and that is the biggest problem of the film. Until there I was kinda bored and despite the great dialogue, that is always very clever and interesting in Woody's films, I was kinda distracted most of the time waiting for something great to come. When Val has is breakdown is when the film starts to get more interesting and it transforms itself into a good comedy.

Woody Allen is amazing as Val Waxman. I already mentioned in other reviews that I think he has is own very peculiar way of acting, which I like very much, that it totally fits into the characters that he plays. The rest of the cast did a good job too.

Hollywood Ending is not a bad film but is not consistent and it needed more development. If you like Woody Allen's film you will enjoy this one but it's far from being one of his best. It's just average.
