for a moment I thought it's 300, you know when they march the legions to fight.
anyway, come on this is not about Hercules and nothing about his legends mentioned here.
this movie is about a mercenary whose priority is gold then turned good for the innocents in the end and his name happened to be Hercules.

Movie is pretty good, just be warned that if you have any particular expectations (especially those gotten from the trailers), wipe them all out completely before watching. If you don't, the movie's just gonna crush those expectations painfully and then laugh at you, and you'll have to deal with that before actually starting to enjoy it.

For me it was better cinema experience than The dawn of planet of apes which I saw yesterday. More original story. Moreover, they compare it to 300, but here is much less blood therefore a bit more realistic although Hercules is a mythological figure while Spartans not :-)

I had very low expectations of this movie. Unjustified. It was not a bad movie. Out of all these recent God-myth-movies, this was one of the better ones for sure.

"Hercules" is entertaining pop corn flick from start till finish. Turn your brain off and enjoy it. It has cool action, bigger than life Dwayne Johnson as Hercules and good supporting stuff.

En pleno 2014 se siguen haciendo películas tan malas, nunca veremos un Hercules interesante en la gran pantalla? hasta ahora ninguna le gana el cuento para niños de Disney.

Possibly one of the worst movies of recent times, definitely the worst movie of The Rock (yes, that included "the tooth fairy").
Avoid at all costs!

Director Brett Ratner looks at the man behind the legend in the big-budget action film _Hercules_. Based on a graphic novel, the story follows the Greek warrior Hercules and his band of mercenaries as they come to the aid of the King of Thrace to help him fight off a warlord. The film features an impressive cast that includes Dwayne Johnson, Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, and John Hurt. However, the performances are a little weak; as the characters come off as one-dimensional stereotypes. Still, that’s about par for this type of action film, but is made up for by the exciting fight sequences. And, the score brings a lot of energy to the film. While _Hercules_ doesn’t exactly live up to expectations, it’s a fairly decent for a sword and sandals style adventure.

Somehow I missed it in the passed years. But I could remember there were 2 Hercules movies in 2014. A bit to much if you ask me. It keeps telling the same stories.

Hercules (2014) - ❤x6

I've never been a huge fan of the Hercules mythology. But I watched this anyway. It's an ok movie. If you like Dwayne Johnson you'll most likely enjoy this.

How I rate:
1-3 ❤ = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6 ❤ = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8 ❤ = I expect you will like this too
9-10 ❤ = movies and TV shows I really love!

I never bothered with Hercules back in 2014 because the trailer looked awful. It was a nice surprise today when a generic, but decent, action adventure was hiding behind that dreadful trailer.

What saves a rather lacking story, is the well directed action scenes and decent acting. Hercules will never be a classic, but I wouldn't mind finding it again in a few years...

Best character in the show without a doubt Amphiarius. And Atalanta.

My most wth scene... it’s bloody Hercules but he doesn’t have the strength to hold on to a child’s hand as it’s sliding down his arm.

Mostly disappointing, 'Hercules' fails to deliver in what should've been a thrilling action film.

It's still an OK production, with a few decent qualities. Dwayne Johnson is perfect for the titular role, even if it isn't one of his best performances; the iffy wig doesn't help either. Ian McShane and Aksel Hennie are good casts, though both are a little underused throughout.

I didn't like the multiple villains, especially as none of them really stand out. Away from McShane (Amphiaraus) and Hennie (Tydeus), I don't think they got the correct actors for Hercules' team - the remaining lot all slightly irritated me in different ways.

The plot isn't the greatest here either. I did actually enjoy the ending in truth, it's the best part of the film... everything up to that point plods, as well as having rather obvious plot devices. The overall score could've been better, also.

It all accounts for unsatisfying viewing, unfortunately.

This is one of the worst examples of Hollywood retelling a classical hero story.

First they feel the need to make it more "realistic" by removing anything supernatural from the story, but then the action is so absurd and over-the-top that this only makes it less believable.

Worse. They constantly tease the supernatural as a fake out as if they're mocking your intelligence.

In an era of superhero films, post Lord of the Rings, why do these directors feel they have to make a story "realistic" in order for us to take it seriously?

Setting that all aside, the characters are as cartoonish as they can get, and this is a boring story that bares practically no connection to the stories Hercules is known for.

I love mythologies, folklores, & legends. I daresay that the story of Heracles, or Hercules as its been romanized to be, is easily one of my favorites. I did go into this believing it to be a adaptation of the story of the 12 labors, with the poster and the trailers showing off the battle with the Nemean Lion, the first labor. But instead what I watched was quite different.
A modern retelling where stories of the legendary Hercules are just that, stories, inflation of reality.
It's an interesting take, one that I don't disagree with. Frankly, I enjoyed this movie, but also recognizing it as a film that I'll likely never revisit.
