Film 60 (Goal: 300) of 2024

Hearts Beat Loud is a sweet little film starring the always fantastic Nick Offerman, Kiersey Clemons, Toni Collette and Sasha Lane, with small appearances from Ted Danson and Blythe Danner. The film feels like a John Carney film in that it's smaller budget with an intimate focus on music.

It centres around a vinyl record shop, owned by music lover Francis James (Offerman) who previously released a record. Despite the lack of income coming in, and the rising costs of the rent for his shop, he still gets joy out of two things - his love of music and his daughter. And these things combine for their weekly "jam session". After writing an excellent track in one of these sessions, James releases the record to Spotify where it starts to gain some low key traction.

Hearts Beat Loud is a film about holding onto what we love, nurturing it, reveling and enjoying it while we can, but also knowing when to move on and let go. And that applies to our hobbies and the people/places we love. The film doesn't do enough and if I'm honest, it probably should be a 3 but I loved the setting and the actors so it moves up.
