Painful. This was painful to watch.
What should have been a simple thriller, proto-slasher, took every wrong turn it could find.
Our story follows total douchebag, John Harrington. I think he was a fashion designer - who only makes wedding dresses...because.
The guy has zero charisma, cheats on his wife, lives in a mansion, and has models falling all over him.
From the first shot, it's made clear that we are getting this story from the perspective of the killer himself, so there's no mystery being spoiled. No, the actual enigma we are trying to unravel is why, why does John kill? I never cared, because I never liked him. Beyond that, the reveal was not a shock, nor did it answer the actual question.
This is all damning enough, but what's worse is the film adds a Poe-style twist in the middle, and we get a ghost story. Why?
The acting, and dialog were atrocious. The story didn't add up. The entire movie rested on the shoulders of John, but he was an abysmal dick.
If you want to see how to make a movie like this properly, see _American Psycho_ (2000) or _Maniac_ (1980).
Another big tip that this was going to be a total miss is that the title is _Hatchet for the Honeymoon_, even though the killer uses a cleaver. Are you kidding? This would be like if _The Texas Chainsaw Massacre_ gave Leatherface a hacksaw as his main weapon.
What a waste of time.
