[4.5/10] I added _Gypsy_ to my watchlist after seeing a clip from the final performance, which was so impressive. Bette Midler truly is phenomenal at what she does, so I had high hopes going in.

But now, having seen the full movie, I feel like the story just didn’t land for me. Bette Midler’s performance as Rose was exceptional, and the rest of the cast gave solid efforts, but I struggled to connect with any of the characters. And Rose was my least favorite of them all! I found myself dreading most of her dialogue unless she was singing. The costumes were beautiful though. Always looked forward to seeing what they'd be wearing next. That red dress at the end was perfect.

Unfortunately, this has been one of my least favorite watches this year (it’s my 19th movie of 2025). I don’t think the story was all that engaging or entertaining, and I doubt I’d enjoy it on Broadway either. If you're a big fan of Bette Midler or other versions of the story, it may be worth the watch.
