Gorath

"Gorath" is a different kind of Toho science fiction movie. There's no kaiju in site, but the threat is actually more horrendous. A planet (named Gorath) is heading toward Earth and it's on a collision course. My favorite scene is when Gorath passes by Saturn and strips it of its rings. Very cool! But never fear, as Gorath approaches, the world's scientists band together to come up with one of the damnedest solutions to saving the Earth that I've ever seen. The miniature spaceships and satellites, the outer space scenes, they all looked great in that 1960's style that I like so much. Unfortunately, I saw the English dub, which isn't terrible but Paul Frees voices about two dozen characters. It was funny at first, but got a bit distracting. I will have to track down the Japanese version. It will probably add to the movie's charm.
