This is a mess. Completely.

I was hoping that this one could innovate in some areas. Maybe it wouldn't take itself too serious and be more fun, or just have Jason attacking and terrorising NYC in a creative way. I was on board with the initial idea, of Jason taking Manhattan. Well, it didn’t work out. The story is horrendous. You just sit there hoping that every character die so you don’t have to watch them doing stupid things and saying the worst lines ever.

The characters are hollow, I didn’t give a damn to anyone of them. Nothing makes sense. The main character has random dreams and visions about Jason. Apparently she suffered a trauma caused by Jason (his kid version) while she was “swimming” in Crystal Lake (or somewhere around), but doesn’t really add up. How was that even possible? She’s way younger than Jason.
She has dog that goes with her to their excursion to NYC, which is already weird how no one prohibited her of doing that. The dog shows up in the beginning, then he simply vanishes on the ship and returns from nowhere while some characters are escaping in a boat. When they arrive in Manhattan, this happens again, with the dog letting them to die and reappearing in the very ending. Why did they put the dog there if he had no serve to the plot?

I may be complaining too much about a dog, but it really bothered me for some reason.

More than half of the movie is spent on a ship, definitely not what was sold to us as the audience and I suppose the marketing at the time of release. When Jason finally gets to NYC, it is practically only alleys of the portuary zone. We have at best five minutes of Jason in Manhattan and in which appears to be some generic recreation of Times Square. Not even the title is right. Congratulations.

The movie is shot in a strange way, the director tried to be cool and innovative I think. It has some meaningless slow motion shots that you just have this thought: “Dude, what the fuck is this, whyyy!?!?”. The movie also has a slow pacing and it takes too long to reach end.

Harry Manfredini's absence as the long time composer of the series is really noticeable. I guess this is one of the few movies that he's not present.

Among all this garbage, hard as it may sound, there were some fun moments. I was expecting the boxer character to fight in mano a mano with Jason and it really did happen, just thought he would be more prepared after so much exhibition of his skills.
Although most killings are forgettable, I liked this one and the other where a guy is killed in a sauna.

Jason staring at a billboard with a hockey mask just like his is fun. And Jason dying by toxic waste, while being ridiculous (you can even see his despair and screams) at least we get a cool makeup effect of his face melting, I guess.

I'd like to know how this was approved. It is simply not possible that the crew and some executives watched this before release and have not thought: “Oh my god, this is an abomination”.

I guess this is the worst movie in the Friday the 13th franchise. I still have some movies left to watch but I honestly don’t think any of the remaining could get worse than this. This is the rock bottom.
