It seems like the 80's comedy scene was dominated by the classic coming of age high school movie like Fast Times, Weird Science, etc. These usually focused on the male figure but this movie predates all of them and has 4 females as we follow them through some tough times in high school. The main problem with this coming of age flick is we really don't see the girls coming of age. The only one who shows any maturation through the movie is Jodie Foster. Even at this young age, it is obvious how talented she is as she gives a top notch effort and a taste of things to come. Sure one girl dies and one gets married, but those are events not processes. I don't remember high school being drinking drugs and sex like these girls had it. Randy Quaid was a little more "understanding" about them wrecking his house than I would have been. If it seems weird when he and Madge get married at then end, think again. Quaid is only one year older than the actress in real life. There are a couple of nostalgia things to watch for in the movie. The heavy metal band Angel looks extremely rediculous during the concert scene and watch for a young Laura Dern who is the party crasher who wants to come in and wait for her friend during dinner prior to the house destruction party. Overall, not too much to see here.
