I was actually surprised that this was actually a quite decent movie. It’s not scare at all but the story is quite good and even the execution is almost all the time good as well.
As with all horror movies I was expecting some kind of weird twist somewhere in the middle but there wasn’t. It’s really predictable but altogether way over my really low expectations.
Was also surprised to see Uma Thurman in this.

It started out promising, with a great concept, but the ending was just plain disappointing.

Thurman is suitably weird as the loopy headmistress, and the plot is bonkers enough to maintain interest, but the movie could ultimately have been better. B+ for story and concept; C for execution.

An intriguing concept that was sadly ruined by a flat ending. I mainly watched it for Isabel Fuhrman (from Orphan) but I found that the main character Kit played the part well. It's like a better version of Boarding School (2018)

Down a Dark Hall is a darkish coming-of-age fantasy, probably based off of some YA fiction book that I've never heard of. It's not a bad movie, and its central theme is uplifting if completely lacking in subtlety. It's just so ...mediocre? That's the word that comes to mind, at least. Clearly, I'm not the intended audience, though, and I'm sure it would appeal to teenagers. More than anything, my view of the movie reflects my disappointment in the lack of any real horror in the movie.

AnnaSophia Robb and Uma Thurman lead the cast in the supernatural horror film Down a Dark Hall. Based on a bestselling book, the story follows a rebellious teenage girl who’s sent to a reform school for troubled youth called Blackwood, but she soon discovers that something strange is going on and begins to suspect that she and her fellow students are being used for some nefarious purpose. Robb gives a fairly good performance and director Rodrigo Cortes does an impressive job at creating an atmospheric mood. However, the storytelling is a little weak and lacks strong villains. Also, the supernatural isn’t really played for scares, and the scares that are there seem a little out of place. Still, despite its problems, Down a Dark Hall is a creepy thriller full of mystery and intrigue.

I am afraid that the work of the dead artists will remain unfinished.

Why is it that when someone has an interesting idea for a horror film, they almost never seem to get the ending right? It's still a decent movie and surprisingly better than what I thought it would be.
