The Dyatlov Pass Incident(2013)
Overview
In February of 1959, nine Russian hikers ventured into a remote area of the Ural Mountains. Two weeks later, all of them were found dead. What happened is a mystery that has baffled investigators and researchers for decades. It has become known as the Dyatlov Pass Incident. When five ambitious American college students are issued a grant to return to the site of the original events, they gear up with the belief that they can uncover and document the truth of what happened to the supposedly experienced hikers. But what they find is more shocking than anything they could have imagined. Retracing the steps of the Russians' ill-fated journey, the students are plagued by strange and increasingly terrifying phenomena that suggest that in spite of the desolate surroundings, they are not alone. The forces at work in the Dyatlov Pass Incident have been waiting for them.

The film has its moments, but with too many convoluted plot twists, the experience does become more than a little wearying.
Please kill the found footage format. Please! I also found the unbelievable superiority complex of the '#34;hikers'#34; all to familiar and wanted nothing more for than them to die a horrible death or at least to lose a few limbs. Guessing this was intentional? The ending was not shocking and neither were the callbacks to the Philadelphia Experiment to anyone over the age of ... what 35 or 40? There'#39;s even a movie called the Philadelphia Experiment (I and II). Not original. Not by a long shot. The ending? Typical horror attempt at shocking... yawn.
The film is based on a real mystery and this is very interesting. It tells the story of a group of climbers who died in a mountain in Russia in 1959 and whose cause of death was never correctly explained. A group of young researchers back to the site of the tragedy to investigate more than 50 years later. The film is told in the style '#34;Blair'#39;s witch'#34; that I do not like. Let me dizzy those acquired from the camera. But I liked the outcome and science fiction theory that uses to explain everything ...
People rating this above 4 are being way too generous and forgiving on this appalling mashup of urban legends, unsolved mysteries and other run-of-the-mill clichés. Now that the Russian government has officially reopened the case, I expect a few shittier sequels to come up in the next few years. Or none at all, if everyone decides to wise up.
Good first half, the second half is just like any other '#34;horror'#34; movie.
Surprisingly good. But the end of the movie.. I almost cried. So bad. Wish I just turned off after 95% -.-
I mean, this is one of the more plausible explanations.
A mixture of _Blair Witch_ and _Chernobyl Diaries_, _Devil’s Pass_ is an intense and frightening thriller. Filmed in a found footage style, a group of students retrace the steps of a famous Russian exposition that was mysteriously lost while exploring a mountain passage. The writing is especially good; particularly in how it subtly builds from a mundane mountain trek into a conspiratorial thriller. Additionally, the cast gives strong performances that help to give the footage an authentic feel. Still, the characters are a little underserved and aren’t fleshed out too much beyond what’s needed for the story. _Devil’s Pass_ has some weak points, but overall it’s a smart and compelling horror film that does a remarkable job at using the found footage genre.
This was fun enough until it turned into a video game cut scene, which was a big thing in horror at this time.

The documentary is cool until the zombies come out!!!!
A found footage movie from a director Renny Harlin who already made some bigger films like Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger, Deep Blue Sea, etc. Does this mean the big name extends the medium? Not really.. but there is worse. I found the beginning rather boring. Lots of exposition and seemingly unprepared kids going for a hike (despite them showing us their training videos). It takes a fucking long time to get going and never really takes of. We already got Trollhunter in a snow- and cave-setting so this one taking on the Russians and their secret in the mountains isn'#39;t really something new and with recent games like Singularity or Metro we still know that there could be things hidden. Needless to say the CGI later doesn'#39;t help the atmosphere and presenting us things we'#39;ve seen before. Only the facepalm-worthy ending adds a nice twist to it and makes it full-circle but there are still too many plotholes and doesn'#39;t seem to be a valid theory for what happend at the Pass that night...
Thought the first half of the film was pretty good, was like Blair Witch in the snow, going through the motions of interviewing people, getting a bit of a background on what they are trying to do. When they set of on their own and the 'strange' things start happening, it kept you intrigued, but then when you find out what is really going on.. you find out why films like Blair Witch decided not to reveal their monster, because it was truly disappointing. Not only that, but the whole story at the end was just a bit silly, too out of context with the build up of the film. And the fact that this is meant to be an explanation to the disappearance of real people is pretty weird! First half of the film is solid enough though, worth a watch if you like found footage horror films.

I'm on record as not being a fan of Found Footage Horror. But I was ready to give _The Dyatlov Pass Incident_ a passing grade, maybe even a positive one. Until the ending. The sudden emergence of PS2 graphics was bad enough (especially for something that is supposed to have been captured on a real-world camera) but something happens (no spoilers) in that same sequence which just doesn't make any sense, even completely contained within the movies own canon. These things took me out of it completely, and sullied what could have been a surprisingly good experience. _Final rating:★★½ - Had a lot that appealed to me, didn’t quite work as a whole._

**_Trying to discover the truth about the Dyatlov Pass Incident of 1959_** Five students from the University of Oregon obtain a grant to conduct an expedition to the infamous pass in the northern Ural Mountains to try to figure out what happened to the nine Russian hikers who perished there 53 years earlier. While the excursion starts out promising, things go from bad to worse. “Devil’s Pass” (2013) is found footage adventure/horror/sci-fi that’s way better than I thought it’d be, speaking as someone who’s generally not big on found footage flicks, unless they’re done right. What’s great about this one is that the cast & crew literally went to the snowy mountains in Russia to shoot the film. Yet it wasn’t shot anywhere near the Dyatlov Pass, but rather in and around Kirovsk, which is in extreme northwest Russia not far south of eastern Sápmi, aka Lapland. This is roughly 3400 miles northwest of the infamous pass, by vehicle. They obviously shot here because it was more accessible and cheaper compared to filming near the remote pass, not to mention the Khibiny Mountains are generally more scenic in a rugged sense compared to the Urals. I like how various theories are thrown around in the story with commentary on The Philadelphia Experiment circa 1943. However, that alleged event had zero to do with teleportation, but rather attempted to make the USS Eldridge ‘invisible’ to radar detection by manipulating magnetic fields. As for what the students find at Kholat Syakhl, aka Dead Mountain, let’s just say that the scriptwriter Frankenstein-ed the concept of Nightcrawler of the X-Men. This movie is, of course, a fantastical account, but what really happened at Dyatlov Pass in 1959? The top theory is that 3 feet of shifting snow during the snowstorm suddenly fell on the tent at night, which panicked the nine inhabitants. Fearful of an actual avalanche, they cut themselves out of the tent and fled without proper attire. When they realized an avalanche wasn't going to happen, some tried to make it back to the tent but died of hypothermia in the -13 degrees Fahrenheit weather (it was no doubt difficult to find the camp in those conditions). What happened to the others is well explained in an 11-minute documentary called "Is Dyatlov Pass Mystery Finally Solved," available for free on Youtube (jump to 7:33 to skip the recap of the entire incident). It runs 1 hour, 40 minutes. Additional scenes were shot in Krasnaya Polyana in Sochi, Russia, by the Caucasus Mountains, just northwest of Georgia. GRADE: B

8.5/10 Well this is absolutely frickin awesome and very unique for what the topic of this fantastic movie in centred around. And what I love is it's about one of my all time favourite Mysteries. The Dyatlov Pass Incident. Now I've studied and looked into this heavily and what an absolute mind fcuk it is, I find it absolutely fascinating and totally mind boggling and I love everything about the hole intriguing Incident. I've watched the real life documentary on it and it blow my frickin mind especially when in the documentary they show you what was being written in the journal and then they show you one frame of a photo taken with a large black kinda hairy mass of a shape behind the tree as if studying/Stalking the group. Am telling you the real life documentary is super Awesome just like this movie. And the fact they throw all the other lore in as well from other well known Mysteries and things the governments will kill to keep covered up well I am glued to this amazing movie every single time I view it. There definitely needs to be more movies and coverage on this particular subject matter. I am definitely up for more of that. This is a really great story and for the little we know about what really happened, definitely needs to be told and talked about, Because shit like this can not just be buried and forgotten. I'm so glad I own this movie on Blu Ray And there are some awesome videos on YouTube all about it if you find it as interesting as i do and you wish to know more.

Maybe it's something about the snow, ice and cold. I seem to be drawn to movies about people struggling in bad weather. I'm also a sucker for stories of strange occurrences, disappearances, and conspiracies. I also have a fondness for Horror flicks. "Devil's Pass" should have been a slam dunk for me. And you know what? It was. The plot concerns a group of college students who follow the path into the Ural mountains that a group of hikers traveled back in 1959. Everyone in that original expedition died and to say they died in horrifyingly odd fashion would be an understatement. These deaths actually occurred and the mystery, known as "The Dyatlov Pass Incident", remains unsolved (and scary) to this day. "Devil's Pass" starts out with a lot of exposition and is even a little slow until the final 30 minutes. But then all Hell breaks loose. The story posits an explanation for the original hikers' deaths and then takes a left turn into insanity. Skip the rest of my thoughts here if you want to avoid spoilers...I absolutely loved that the finale included "The Philadelphia Experiment", time travel/wormholes, Nightcrawler-style teleportation, and some Soviet Union military conspiracy thrown in for good measure.
