What I expected; Forgettable entertaining folk horror flick.

What I got; Supernatural art house drama with layers of culture, history, comedy and tragedy all in one and in line with polish cinematic heritage.

Fuck me like a band leader after the gig. This is brilliant.

The movie has a lack of direction that becomes evident as it progresses. The narrative centers on a wedding party, but most of the time it focuses on specific traditions and random scenes that contribute nothing. As a result, the story drags on in circles, going nowhere. The dialog and dynamics between the characters also seem disconnected and purposeless. What little is developed results in a simplistic and superficial narrative that fails to arouse interest. It's a movie that seems lost, unable to make the most of the elements it has.

Well made, but this 'horror' is distinctly lacking in chills. Still worth a watch, especially for the biggest horror in the film, the well-realised wedding scenes, with all the cringeworthy moments you would expect from a family wedding!

One of the most tense and satisfying experiences I've had in a very long time. It's essentially a wedding scene haunted by the specter of a Dybbuk. The supernatural elements are just a piece of what is ultimately, a powerful vehicle for telling the story of a generation unable to own up to the horrors their country was complicit in. There’s something so unsettling about the various characters’ individual responses to ghosts that refuse to stay conveniently buried. The lead performance by Itay Tiran is quite captivating. The tension is effectively built, the drunken escalation is captured in a terrifying way, and pitch black humor are so strong it’s impossible not to watch the film without laughing out loud. It's one of those films that gets better as you think about it. Definitely worth watching for fans of unconventional horror films.
