A disappointing adaptation.

Without familiarity with the source material, a lot of this wouldn't be understood.
The Shinigami were disappointing - they could have been so awesome, so it felt like a wasted opportunity

And I've never understood the premise of messy, almost child-like unorthodox detective represented by L and now Ryuksaki - perhaps that is a cultural reference I have missed

All in over 2 hours of movie (made slightly worse because I have to use subtitles, and there was a lot of dialogue...a lot of dialogue...)

But there were some impressive bits - like the chase scene, death of [spoiler]Matsuda[/spoiler]

Overall, like so many of these live action adaptions, I wanted so much to like it..but didn't. But I will still keep watching, waiting for the good version to be made...
