As others have said, it's Top Gun but a different seat under Tom's butt.
The biggest problem is that it was very inaccurate, and the only thing they got right was the cars go in circles very fast.
1) Openly stating you're going to put someone in the wall would get you parked and possibly suspended.
2) Lead lap cars lined up on the outside in that era, not the inside.
3) Cars being beat up as much as they were in the movie would not be competitive, especially on plate tracks.
4) A single car could not pass a line of cars at plate tracks.
5) A race could not be restarted with two laps to go in that era, as all cars are allowed to pit, and a race cannot be restarted with only one lap left.
6) NASCAR cars were not built in barns in the 80s/90s. Perhaps the 60s, and maybe even into the 70s. The technological disadvantage and on-track performance would be glaring.
I'm sure there's more, but these are the biggies. Seeing as how NASCAR was involved in the production, I'm surprised they didn't point these out, or maybe they did but were ignored.
