A beautifully unfunny joke of wasted potential. (Spoilers) This movie has so many issues its hard to just think of them without getting frustrated. The acting is so bland. People will die, and the witnesses are barely even phased. Dave even gets his hand transformed into cardboard, and everyone around him barely even blinks. Paper animals are literally springing to life, and only Annie (Kumbhani) seems to care. In fact, its her character and the set design that is the only saving grace of this movie, while the rest of the prominent cast seems to phone it in, especially Nick Thune. The film crew are the most worthless characters I've ever seen in a movie. They keep those three, but immediately kill off the other 3 with some actual budding personality. There could have been much better jokes with the killing of a film crew and the survival of an obsessive director. Instead, they are used as redundant-silent comedic relief in a "comedic" movie, that's only reminds me of cringey high school theater skits. I had to walk away from the film 35 minutes in, just to think about what I was even watching. Was it that I just didn't get the joke? As a parody of 80s Adventure Movies, was the bland acting, confusing dialogue, bland characters, yet amazing set design part of the quirk? Or did they just have an interesting idea, and failed in it's execution? Dave asks the group, "Who is with me?" and I questioned my own involvement. In the end, who cares about this movie, the actors sure didn't, and the writers seemed to have ran out of ideas by that time and decided to draw it out for as long as they could.
