Darby O'Gill and the Little People

From Disney comes the family comedy Darby O’Gill and the Little People. Based on a book series, the story follows a groundskeeper named Darby O’Gill who regales his local pub with tales of his battles with the leprechaun king, King Brian of Knocknasheega. The cast is pretty good and includes a young Sean Connery. Jimmy O'Dea does a great job at playing King Brian, bringing the perfect mix of charm and mischief, and the film features the classic Disney song “Pretty Irish Girl.” Still, the plot is very thin and relies on a lot of filler; such as songs and dances and drinking challenges. Also, the folklore is rather loose as the rules seem made up as it go along. Yet despite whatever problems it has, Darby O’Gill and the Little People is a lot of fun and delivers plenty of laughs.
