Very flawed yet a beautiful film. There're problems with pacing, and with the script. Honestly, who cares about Frances? I don't like the romance bits. A lot of wasted potential/time there. Some dialogs feel cheesy. But other than that, I love almost everything about this film. I'm glad they've put an effort on the playing. Every time I see someone play an instrument on screen, it's all fake and makes me cringe. But it seems natural in Crossroads alongside with what you're hearing too. (I think I've read somewhere that Steve Vai did all the guitar recording.) And of course like everybody else,
I'm a sucker for that guitar battle at the ending
. It's a classic. So to conclude: If you're somewhat interested in music, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. If not, you may be a little bit disappointed. But in my book it's certainly worth a watch.

Cool movie, if you like blues you should consider watching it. Good enough for a movie night, but too much wasted potential in my book. At the start I was expecting a coming of age movie and it kind of delivered. It collapses on itself towards the second half. And the ending? It negates all what came before it. Doesn't really make sense to me. Still, I'd watch it again sometime. Would definitely enjoy the hell out of it in the unlikely situation someone somewhere decided to remake the whole thing with a young actor who can actually play the blues.

Nice, but the final battle makes this film memorable. Incredible scene with the unique and original Steve Vai.

6/10
