A series of fragments, but in the end the film managed to keep me captivated for two hours, and it contained some very good scenes, mainly due to the fantastic acting of Binoche. How good is she. The subway scene was downright disturbing but really good.

I can imagine the '#39;Everything Now'#39; generation tearing their hair out at the end of this film. If they even made it to the end. This is one of the best hyperlink films I'#39;ve seen in which a series of short scenes based around 4 or 5 characters unfolds that are linked by their actions. Haneke even gave the film a sub title called '#39;Incomplete Tales of Several Journeys'#39;. And the incompleteness might infuriate some but also forces the viewer to ask questions of the incompleteness. In that sense this is arthouse cinema at it'#39;s purest. Some of the acting is incredible. Each vignette is seemingly shot in one take, which must have taken days. The themes of racism, immigration, social decay and the lack of communication are prevalent, and Haneke also seems to be asking the viewer if some people might not behave the way they do if they were just given a bit of affection in their life. Either way, Haneke is a master and this film is brilliant.

I really wanted to like this movie. I really thought that I would like this movie. Great actors, important story... what could go wrong? The answer is the storytelling.
