[Fantasia '24] One of the few box office failures in Roger Corman's filmography, it is now being revived on the 50th anniversary of its premiere, vindicated as an underrated film in Monte Hellman's directorial career. A story that offers an almost documentary-like look at the cockfighting community in Georgia, but at the same time providing a certain ironic perspective. As an accurate portrait of the American South and the mythology of violence expressed through the brutality of the cockfighting arenas, it is a worthy film that encompasses the complexities of the subculture in North America to talk about morality and destiny.
