the movie isn'#39;t that bad actually... kinda enjoyable :) simple action packed movie with cute girls enjoying their crazy lives.
Charlie’s Angels is so goddamned awful, there are no words. It’s so ridiculously bad (the plot, the acting, the effects) that it has to be seen to be believed. How a film starring Cameron Diaz, Lucy Lui, Drew Barrymore, and Bill Murray could make you want to put a gun to your head is unimaginable, but somehow McG found a way. At best, there are a few laughs to be had at how pathetically bad it all is. Exceptionally atrocious, Charlie’s Angels is all kinds of wrong in every possible way.
This movie had absolute everything I hold dear to my little nostalgic heart and it was still disappointing. It's an early 00s action/spy flick, the Angels actresses are the textbook definition of iconic, it features my beautiful babygirl BIll Murray being his lovely silly self, the soundtrack ranges from The Prodigy to Blink 182 to Destiny's Child to Heart... and it still was bad. And it was not only the *gross* hyper sexualization of the Angels that was over the top even by 00s standards, no. The movie was overall disjointed and aimless. Some of the action scenes are fun, but the rest just feels boring and honestly very lame. It used to happen often when movies' first priority were just to look so *sick* and *cool* dude hell yeah!!! (i.e. the first Fast and Furious). And don't get me started on the antagonists... for reference: Eric Knox is like a lame Zoolander, the "Thin Man" is a creppy disgusting Robbie Rotten from Lazy Town and honestly who cares for that b*tch Vivian?
It’s bad, like B grade classics, it’s good. 😂 I felt like getting lost for 90 minutes and this did the trick. Nothing to think about, nothing to delve into , just some lighthearted fun
The ordeals of cocaine filmmaking in LA. Didn't take me long to realise this film works at 100% efficiency when you're railing down lines of the superpower drug every twenty minutes. I feel like this was crazy influential for so much of the 2000's. "That man's got a beautiful telephone voice."
Fun movie adaption of the classic TV series. Not overwhelmingly grateful, but I like the girls so …
Have seen many people calling the movie awful. I have actually enjoyed it. It is not a serious action film, it's a comedy which is supposed to brighten your mood
Charlie'#39;s Angels is a nice distraction. It'#39;s fun, cute, and incredibly charming. End of story!!! And btw...I don'#39;t like this movie just because of the swaying ass of Cameron Diaz (although it doesn'#39;t hurt). Who do you think I am? :) Kidding as(s)ide...Charlie'#39;s Angels has a lot going for it. Cute women that can kick ass, funny good guys, funny bad guys, and some nice action all in one package. The story is stupid, the lines are cheesy, and the action scenes might be a tad overchoreographed, but I don'#39;t really care. I'#39;m certainly not going to stop revisiting this one from time to time.
Rewatching it after 20 years was not so bad. Girls are pretty and the score is great.
It is still a good fun without complications, Cameron Díaz, Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu make the movie shine. I would say it is satire from action movies
Enjoyed the action sequences but the dialogue and off shoot story lines could be downright cringe worthy unfortunately.
Loved it as a kid, but it just doesn’t hold up any more. What does hold up is the Destiny’s Child soundtrack.
Generic oversexualized action movie. The three leads looked like they had a good time
Mediocre action flick building on '#34;sex sells'#34; paradigm.
Anyone else just watched this just for the girls...then ended up kinda liking it??? :)
_Spy Kids_ for “adults”. I say “adults”, because it’s pretty much unwatchable if your brain has developed itself mentally past the stage of a teenager. A lot of people don’t reach that stage, so naturally it got a sequel. Essentially, I would liken this movie to going to Hooters; it’s really just a PG-13 stripclub. Seriously, I don’t see the need for this in a world where we have Pornhub, because it barely even tries as a movie. It also just reeks of the early 2000s; there’s a trashy, hypercommercial, cheaply sexualized, Britney Spears-vibe surrounding this movie that ensured this thing would have zero shelf life. So, generally very infantile and unentertaining, but I will admit that the directing at least has some personality. I don’t even feel like going over any other specifics, because I don’t want to put more effort into this write up than McG did for his movie. 2.5/10

Charlie's Angels (2000) is a surprisingly subversive, if very politically confused, film that revels in schizophrenic references and racially, sexually charged scenes that do literally nothing to affect the plot. I believe this is sometimes cool as fuck (other times I want to lobotomise myself) and could be intentional (unlikely). I wanted to write a flowery analysis substantiating this claim but I am too tired (time of writing: 4:35AM). Here are the elongated bullet points I resort to when I am this fatigued (I might edit later). ⋅ Opens with a foiled terrorist plot with a literal suicide bomber on a plane (this film premiered almost 1 full year before 9/11). This is done with the use of the most heinous blackface probably of the entire decade (including Tropic Thunder). There's no hiding from it, Barrymore (white) is wearing an entire disguise that is a black man. Does subverting gender make racism okay? Y2K Charlie's Angels really does ask questions no other film ever has before or since. ⋅ But something is gnawing at me about all the racist overtones in this film. You know in that one episode of The Simpsons where Mr. Burns' doctor is explaining to him what is wrong and tries to squeeze a bunch of diseases through a little doorframe and they can't all fit? Mr. Burns thinks that this means he's invincible and the doctor rushes to correct him that "even the slightest breeze could..." That's what I think about both the yellowface and blackface in this film... when paired with disguising in drag and a blonde Lucy Liu in traditional Bavarian dress... are they just culture jamming too hard and then going too far and then being racist... but then in throwing so many racially/sexually charged bits at the wall.... they end up creating something radical, even if accidentally? But like all the diseases not being able to fit through the door, Y2K Charlie's Angels is extremely tense in its thematic messaging? Like, the contradictions are becoming more and more potent as the film goes on? Surely I am giving them a massive benefit of the doubt and honestly I despise concerning myself with the *intentions* of the author(s). I really want to just say that this is neo-Dadaism because it is that incoherent and absurd. Like, the racism doesn't even make internally logical sense. EDIT: Also Tom Green (Barrymore's then-husband) making a cameo in this film a year before 2001's Freddy Got Fingered?? People smarter than me (Lindsay Ellis) have argued that that film is a Dadaist masterpiece... just sayin'. ⋅ Okay, forget about the neo-Dadaist culture jamming, whether or not they were really doing that (I honestly don't want to give McG the credit), what really scrambles my egg is how Charlie's Angels (2000) prophecised the technological shift towards surveillance capitalism. The villain wants to pair vocal recognition tech with global satellite tech to "turn every cell phone into a homing beacon" (paraphrased). Hmmmmmmmm... would be a real shame if that ended up happening... right? Then there's this other small part where Lynch and Rockwell are trying to get the Angels to hand over access to Curry's servers and they say that that would be "unethical". I'm sorry but can you get any more pro-privacy than that? This is supposed to be a Bush-era action/comedy. ⋅ Finally, and this is such a miniscule part of the film too, I want to talk about Lucy Liu's dominatrix bit at Red Star company HQ. She has this monologue where she's explaining to a room full of workers that they're the ones who should be making the decisions and that the managers should be subserviant to them. Um... hello? Based department? And why is she saying this between male drag Diaz and Barrymore? Is it because without two men in suits flanking Liu her position of perceived power is illegitimate? Foooooood for thought. EDIT Had to come back to say that if you're trying to look for an example of *male gaze* then just show them the first half hour of this film (if not the whole thing). Cameron Diaz's opening scene is absolutey cooked. Alright that's enough for now, but I have to give this 4 stars. It's doing too much with so little. If you don't read into it then it's easily 2-3 stars, I mean, obviously. EDIT 4 stars does not redeem this film's crimes against humanity, it merely reflects its potency as an encapsulation of the zeitgeist of the time (the turn of the millennium). P.S. It goes without saying but it's so offputting watching Murray be the way he is on-screen with the Angels after... you know... the allegations.

Not the greatest fighters in this besides Lucy Liu. I really only liked the movie cause it was funny, and of course their sexy. That's pretty much it.
Charlie’s Angels is a heavenly paradise for inexcusably camp charades. Adapting classic television series into a feature film was becoming a common trend in the early part of this century. But maintaining the aesthetic appeal of its source material is often blurred with the requirement of targeting mass mainstream audiences. Would viewers of the original Charlie’s Angels watch a film continuation? Most likely not. So the legendary (and I use that adjective lightly...) McG decided to go full Hollywood, embracing action spy thrillers that came before, and produced one of the campiest guilty pleasures of all time. Can I describe the plot? Absolutely not. It’s thinner that Diaz’ lip fillers and needless botox. Three “Angels” who privately work for a millionaire are assigned a task in investigating technology giant Red Star. Stuff happens, a predictable plot twist unravels and the booming soundtrack of The Prodigy and Fat Boy Slim illuminate my ears. Let me start by saying I love Charlie’s Angels. I love it! It’s a film I hold very close to my heart, and a crucial element to my childhood. Probably a reasoning for my raging homosexuality, let’s be honest. I mean Barrymore, Diaz and Liu kicking a “creepy thin man” repeatedly wearing tight leather costumes in ‘Matrix’-stylised slow motion whilst working together as a cohesive unit of female empowerment!? Just lay me to rest, now! Give me a slice of that angel cake and let me never lose that heavenly flavour. Yet, the amateur critic inside me just cannot classify this film as “good”. Why? Well, because it’s not. And it’s that ever-growing conflict between biased favouritism and legitimate critiquing that has me torn inside. Firstly, the plot is a mess. To the point where the story is a secondary product to the action set pieces and humorous dance sequences. When talented actors, such as Rockwell, are crucial aspects to this afterthought, it unfortunately wastes their efforts. The frantic editing prevents a natural flow of events, including the extravagant action, that anchors these angels. They are unable to spread their wings and fly. A dire shame considering the undeniable chemistry between the lead actresses, each harnessing a unique personality that allows their characters to connect as a team. Diaz is the ditzy dance queen, shaking her tush on Soul Train. Barrymore is the rebellious punk, sticking her middle finger up to everyone. Liu is the intellectual well-mannered lady, riding horses and piloting space rockets. They each add enough humour to come together seamlessly. Essentially, I live for them. The dialogue is cheesy and contagious, if ridiculously vacuous in subject matter. And the constant use of the same songs, namely “Heaven” and “Smack My B**** Up!”, lacked variety. Despite my internal love for The Prodigy and Fat Boy Slim. As far as guilty pleasures go, Charlie’s Angels is up there for me. It’s poorly directed and woefully written, but I cannot deny my adoration for this campy beast. Unfortunately it doesn’t surpass the ultimate guilty pleasure ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’, even after all these years...

"Sabrina" (Kate Duncan) was always my favourite when I was growing up, so I was really disappointed that they didn't recast her character from amongst these three ladies who had a go at resurrecting the bad-ass antics at the "Townsend Detective Agency". At least "Charlie" (John Forsythe) added a bit of continuity, but otherwise this really is a pale imitation of the television series. "Natalie" (Cameron Diaz), "Dylan" (Drew Barrymore) and "Alex" (Lucy Liu) pick up the mantle and guided by "Bosley" (Bill Murray) find themselves embroiled in the world of corporate espionage and high-tech larceny. It's the geeky "Eric" (Sam Rothwell) who has asked them to investigate the nefarious activities of his rival "Roger" (Tim Curry) after his unique voice recognition software has been pinched. It's only after they make some progress that they return to a wrecked house and realise that this is perhaps a cunning distraction from the criminal's real objective: "Charlie" himself! Of course, they want to rally round him but how? They couldn't pick him out of an ID parade. As things hot up, the ladies have to use all of their wits, guile and a fair degree of ninja skills to get to the bottom of the scheming before their boss becomes more chum than "Charlie". As a throw way adventure film this works fine. The writing is largely irrelevant and the focus is entirely on the gymnastic activities of three women who are quite clearly enjoying themselves and, of course, there's the always to be relied upon ham that is Tim Curry. Murray is wasted here, though, and Rockwell only really does enough as his character is all too predictably padded out. There are an array of familiar telly faces to chivvy it along and it's got spawn of a sequel written all over it. You'll probably never remember it, but if it serves to get you to fish out some of the 1970s television series then that might be it's only lasting legacy - they were much more fun.
