TV adaptations of works by Stephen King are rarely good and usually quite bad. This becomes particularly clear when books that have already made a splash on the big screen are adapted for TV. And with "Carrie" from 2002, it took me all of five seconds to realize that it was terrible. Not only does it do everything worse than the original, but even if you are unfamiliar with the 1976 film, most people will probably switch off in annoyance before the overly long runtime of 132 minutes (!) is up. The cast is decent by TV standards, but none of the actors are convincing here. And visually, the standard is also downright bad. Do yourself a favor and watch the original instead of this disaster.

Much better than the 2013 remake. 1976 - 10 2002 - 7 2013 - 4

This remake of the classic horror film _Carrie_ is too loyal to the source material for its own good, and isn’t able to deliver any scares or chills. The cast, which features Emilie de Ravin, Kandyse McClure, and Rena Sofer, isn’t that bad, but the performances are bland and lifeless. The directing is also especially poor and makes all the sets and costumes look cheap. Additionally, the pacing is extremely slow and prevents the story from building any momentum or engaging the audience. While this _Carrie_ may be closer to the original novel, it doesn’t work cinematically.

Definetely the most vulgar adaptation of the three. The cast is actually not bad; but they did change the way characters were played. Carrie is way darker here, and her original sweetness is never shown at all. Sue is bolder, and she seems to have a righteous goal rather a mindset split between guilt and kindness. Even Chris, while still super mean, is more bitter than the book and the other adaptations made her out. I think these changes were fitting considering high school culture of the early 2000'#39;s, but the boys were a complete disappointment. Tommy Ross, who is supposed to be so nice and likable, came out as Sue'#39;s toy and nothing more. Billy Nolan, such a questionable character in the book, appears totally uninteresting as well. What made the movie vulgar was just how strong they made every '#34;strange'#34; aspect about Carrie. Everything felt forced about her life, it was all even bigger and louder than the book, even her early displays of power. Even without two other movies for comparison, this would still be a questionable piece... specially if you add the soundtrack for consideration.
