User Reviews for: Britt-Marie Was Here

Pernilla August does a great job capturing the eccentric personality of Britt-Marie, which feels both realistic and overly exaggerated. 9/10.

Unlike most similar films, this one has not only a warm outlook on life but a calm pace focused on characters rather than the action. 8/10.

The comedy might not be the best ever, but it's grounded in reality and very warm and easy to take in. 8/10.

The small children range from perfectly suitable to not very convincing in terms of acting but form an integral counterpart to the more peculiar Britt-Marie. 7/10.

This is a happy summer film, with a feeling of nostalgia and philosophical dialogue at the heart of the story. It is difficult not to feel good after watching the film. 7/10.

The rest of the cast, including Peter Haber and Anders Mossling, supports August in her performance but doesn't really stand out very much. It's nice to see Haber as someone else than Beck for a change. 6/10.

Other than a feeling of fuzzy calm, there is only a minor emotional depth, even if the characters are well developed. 6/10.

The concept of a peculiar underdog doing wonders and surprising everybody is becoming tiresome - we've had this story with different seasoning several times before. 5/10.

The film drags out a bit in the middle, as the story takes a familiar turn before the showdown in the final act. 5/10.

Director Tuva Novotny holds the film together convincingly, but even she cannot do anything about a worn-out story with little surprises and emotional depth. 4/10.

Verdict: 68/100
