The CIA’s hunt is on for the mastermind of a wave of terrorist attacks. Roger Ferris is the agency’s man on the ground, moving from place to place, scrambling to stay ahead of ever-shifting events. An eye in the sky – a satellite link – watches Ferris. At the other end of that real-time link is the CIA’s Ed Hoffman, strategizing events from thousands of miles away. And as Ferris nears the target, he discovers trust can be just as dangerous as it is necessary for survival.

Body of Lies was an enjoyable, if somewhat generic, espionage thriller. Acting was good, DiCaprio and Strong in particular, the production values were nice, and the plot was good enough. Solid movie and I got what I was expecting.

_Body of Lies_ is an outstanding movie that features exceptional performances by its lead actors, Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe. The plot is engaging and has a realistic feel to it, making it even more thrilling. The film is an excellent example of a spy thriller, packed with plenty of action, suspense, and intrigue. The story keeps you on the edge of your seat as you follow the two protagonists navigate the complex web of espionage and deception. The direction and editing are top-notch, adding to the movie's intense atmosphere. In my opinion, it's one of the best thriller movies out there, and it's definitely one of my favorites.

So, the whole plot is about catching an Iranian terrorist leader... CIA alone doesn't work, CIA collaborating with Jordanian intelligence doesn't work because the CIA tries to use their assets. Then CIA tries to trick everyone into thinking there's another terrorist cell, forcing the Iranian out... which doesn't work, either. Finally, it's one of the assets of the Jordanians that saves the day and the CIA agent. A bit convoluted, everyone against everyone, some personal loyalties which save the day... but the overall impression: If they all just forgot their egos for a minute and tried to collaborate the goal could have been reached with far less injury torture and hurt egos... and maybe even before further attacks take place (but we know at the latest from 9/11 that poor communication costs lives in this business). The only thing I don't quite understand is that Crowe cuts DiCaprio loose in the end... would they really cut a senior field agent loose in that particular region? An agent who's dissatisfied and whose loyalties might be very much on the brink? Not sure. In any case: Intelligence is dirty business.

Like being a psychiatrist: The theory is interesting but then people start telling you about their problems. An incredible cast (DiCaprio, Crowe, Mark Strong and Golshifteh Farahani (!)) directed by Ridley Scott looks great on paper -- and on screen, for much of the film, anyway. Scott's directing is especially on point in this tale of a CIA agent trying to negotiate the job, the DC bosses and the Middle Eastern locals. Sadly, what starts off as an interesting and stylish look at espionage craft devolves into a rather dull case study.

Crowe got second billing and they gave the limelight to DiCaprio instead...that's a great idea. that means that, as usual, DiCaprio is going to shine doing his "this is how you become a different person" thing and Crowe is going to actually act and not just try to hog the limelight.
