The practical effects were lots of fun. There were some neat monster creations that were puppets, not pixels. I appreciated that the cast weren't a bunch of beautiful twenty-somethings placed in a perilous situation. The characters were mostly unattractive and aged. I wouldn't say many of their reactions to the dangers around them were logical, but it made for some entertaining side conflicts when they weren't being attacked by a horned beast or splattered with some sort of mutant goop. I suppose the setting will remind many people of John Carpenter's "The Thing", as will the monster creations, but this is nowhere near that class of movie.

A highly entertaining and genuinely scary parasite/infection horror which effortlessly juggles campy fun with its dramatic moments. This film is clearly inspired by _The Thing_ and doesn't reinvent the wheel but it succeeds in delivering a solid horror with good atmosphere and entertaining set of characters, and it’s always interesting to see how this concept is handled by foreign filmmakers. Those nasty bug creatures, except the flying one, are all done with practical effects and there's also some gnarly body horror on display here. The entire cast manages to create the necessary atmosphere of panic and ignorance throughout the film.

Well, I think I deserve a sequel with the human-dog hybrid as main character now!

There'#39;s a commentary on humans and climate change in here somewhere. It'#39;s like The Thing but less aliens and body horror and more about natural animal mutants with a scientific explanation. It'#39;s pretty alright.

An Austrian take on The Thing and The Mist with eco commentary on the melting of Glaciers. There are some really fun scenes in the movie but unfortunatley it isn'#39;t flawless. It takes a while to setup the '#39;action'#39;, features a couple of the dumb kind of scientist, makes a couple of logic fails and the ending was quite ridiculous (they also cut out the backstory for a girl that appears which is kinda bad for this setting). Nonetheless you get to see some freaky mutations, the scenery of the Alps looks great and the director'#39;s mom plays a really badass Minister.
