_Tranny Fag_ is littered with moments of unforgivable beauty. This documentary is a brazen hymn to Brazilian trans (she refers to herself as a cis woman) rapper / singer Linn da Quebrada. Ms da Quebrada is my latest heroine and I'm addicted to her because she's intelligent and intriguing, beautiful and beatific, talented and tempting, dynamic and dirty, cocksure and confident, artistic and artful, poignant and... political. How lucky are we to live in a time when a woman like her exists and there are the means to broadcast her existence into cinemas everywhere? When I look at the lines being drawn in the world I cannot tell you how happy I am to find myself on her side, because then it doesn't matter if we win or lose because we've already won. The film uses excerpts of her concerts as a running thread that ties together patchwork scenes of her life and past through friends, family, disease and collaborators. Her music is addictive, even if some of the interludes are less interesting than others. Be warned: some of the raw footage is really extremely very raw. Strong recommend.
