low budget, low quality, first half was totally boring, second half not good enough to compensate for first half. I get that it's ironic and sarcastic, but boring none the less

Part of me found this interesting, to watch how a serial killer plans his attacks and to always be 5 steps ahead of the victims. But then I was also confused as to why a serial killer would openly discuss this stuff to a camera crew, unless .. they’re 5 steps ahead and already planned what happens next. The acting was average at best, the kills were meh, the comedy wasn’t very funny and overall kinda boring and forgetful

3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon’: 1. There were some cute ideas here, some valid attempts at being clever with the genre. But it was a poor execution in my book. So many moments were super literal cringe. It was almost impossible for me to become invested, or entertained, in any way. All around amateur. 2. They were very fortunate to get Scott Wilson, Robert Englund, and Zelda Rubinstein for this. 3. If I could praise anything, it’d be the transition between documentary and “horror movie.” I didn’t expect it to completely slip into movie mode eventually, so that was neat I guess. But what were they making this documentary for exactly? It doesn’t really matter.

Such an awesome, often missed deconstruction of the slasher genre. It lovingly skewers the tropes much like Scream did a decade before it and Cabin In the Woods did a decade after. It cleverly roasts these movies, all while delivering an impressive amount of homages, that even the most seasoned horror fan might miss. They accomplish all this while also being a decent slasher film of its own. I hope they one day get the sequel they deserve.

A nice tribute to the slasher subgenre, took me a while to see this movie. It did not disappoint me, but I was expecting a little more.

The film takes an interesting approach to the genre by assuming that Jason, Freddy and Michael really existed and everything they did happened just like the movi More
